HOW TO HELP

HelpersOne of the goals of Blue Shoe Arts is to connect our artists with disabilities with lots of people from the community and across the country. Through working with volunteers and receiving donations from many different people and groups, we are building relationships which expand the social and professional circles of our Blue Shoe artists.

There are many different volunteer opportunities both in the studio/gallery and off site:

  • 1-on-1 help with an artist in the studio, daytime hours, M-W
  • General assistance in the studio, daytime hours M-W
  • Organizing, putting away supplies and donations, all gallery hours
  • Working in the gallery, Sat. 9:30 AM-noon
  • Sewing totes, pillows, dolls, etc. from simple patterns using material provided by Blue Shoe Arts (in your home at your convenience)
  • Cutting out wood shapes from scrap wood or wood supplied by Blue Shoe Arts (in your workshop at your convenience)
  • Framing paintings, both attaching lath directly to stretched canvas and building frames for canvas board, paper, etc. (In your workshop at your convenience)
  • Packing and handling, shipping out orders from our online website or phone orders.
  • Preparing art and paperwork for art shows and exhibits
  • Secretarial work at the studio or in your home.
  • Teaching an art technique to staff and/or Blue Shoe artists in the studio.
  • Computer work, working with online questions, sales, volunteer forms.
  • Helping to set up, man, and tear down exhibits at art shows, mostly weekends at various locations.
  • Fund raising events – planning, hosting, helping at events, etc. Various times and places.

DONATIONS

Many of the supplies our artists use have been donated, which partly accounts for the great variety of art we offer. Everyone reading this probably has things in their home, attic, basement or garage that we would turn into funky art!

Blue Shoe Arts gladly accepts donations to help with the art program.
Some items we need are:
Buttons
Beads
Batting and fiberfill
Ribbon, lace, yarn
Leather lacing, leather pieces
Fabric (Call first to describe what you have)
Doll accessories
Costume jewelry, especially necklaces with pearls or other beads which are loose and move along the string, pierced earrings and pins.
Keys
Small objects to be used in found object sculpture (metal, plastic, wooden)More Helpers
Nice pieces of wood (call first to describe what you have)
Artist supplies – canvas, water-based paints, brushes, tablets of special papers
